Tillandsias come in an assortment of different shades of pink, orange and red. The leaves of most Tillandsia are narrow and pointed. They hail from a very wide territory stretching from the south of the United States to the north of Argentina, in rainforests and deserts. The thin-leaved, green variety grow in the rainy areas and the thicker grey-leaved varieties in drier zones.
Most Tillandsias are air plants (epiphytic) and grow on trees or rocks (lithophytic). It was Carolus Linnaeus who named this plant in 1753 after the Swedish botanist Elias Tillands (1640-1693) (professor at the Abo University in Finland).
Place the Tillandsia in a well-lit area in the house away from direct afternoon sun. Give the plant water in the chalice, which is the heart of the plant from where the flower grows. From this heart, the plant feeds itself. Once the water is no longer visible, the plant must be watered again
This plant only needs some water in its heart & it blooms for 3 months.
